Old Bottle Caps Create Rustic Porch Decor

Materials Needed

To create this DIY project, you’ll need a few supplies, including a thread needle, two pairs of pliers, jump rings, fishing wire, a drill with a small twist bit, and precision hole punch pliers. These items are relatively inexpensive, with most of them priced under $10.

You can find jewelry-making chain nose pliers on Amazon for $7.79, and a 500-piece Kopox jump ring set for $4.98. The drill is the only item that may cost a bit more.

Steps to Create the Wind Chime

Start by using a hole puncher to create holes on the top and bottom edges of the bottle caps. Determine the number of caps you’ll need beforehand to avoid repeating this step later. Next, construct the bottle cap strings with jump rings by holding a jump ring with pliers on each side of the split and twisting one side toward you and the other away to open a small gap.

Then, thread the ring through a hole on the bottle cap and twist back until the ends meet flush. After completing this step, drill small holes into the rim of the pot lid with a power drill, spacing them about 2 inches apart to avoid clutter.

Use fishing wire to create a hanging loop for each string of bottle caps and jump rings. Cut off a piece of fishing wire roughly 6 inches long, thread it through one hole on the lid, create a knot on top, and trim any excess wire. Repeat this process for each of the drilled holes.

Customizing the Wind Chime
