Belgrade has been gaining momentum as a design destination, and the latest addition to the city’s scene is the Esthetic Joys Embassy (EJE) Belgrade, a hybrid dining room, discothèque, and forthcoming hotel located in the Dorćol neighborhood.

The Embassy concept is a cultural gathering place that aims to bring people together across cultures and geopolitics, with each location being a unique conversation with its city.

EJE was originally formed in Moscow in 2016 and relocated in 2022, opening its first Embassy in Yerevan that same year.

For the Belgrade location, EJE enlisted the help of Supaform, a studio founded by artist and designer Maxim Scherbakov, who is known for his nostalgic-yet-knowing references to design history.

The spatial concept of EJE Belgrade is a speculative dreamscape that combines Yugoslav modernism of the late 1950s and early 1960s with a postmodern, mildly hallucinatory lens.

The design references the K67 kiosk, a modular icon from 1966, with oval light panels, a DJ booth, and a warm, deep yellow color scheme.

EJE Belgrade is a unique blend of cultures and styles.

It seems to have found its place in the Dorćol neighborhood.

Reporters note the Embassy concept is all about creating a cultural conversation with its city, rather than copying a formula from another location.

The result is a space that feels both local and global, with a unique energy that sets it apart from other design destinations.

As the city of Belgrade continues to gain momentum as a design hub, EJE Belgrade is sure to be a major player in the scene, attracting visitors from around the world with its unique blend of cultures and styles.

The project has a total area of 500 square meters.

The team completed the project in 6 months, with a team of 20 designers and architects working on the design and construction, and the budget was €500,000.

EJE Belgrade is open 7 days a week, from 12pm to 12am, and offers a unique experience for visitors, with a blend of food, music, and design.
